The new Hyundai EX8 light-duty truck is the latest addition to an already competitive range of commercial vehicles. Deemed the successor to the HD 7.5-ton truck, the EX8 boasts a number of new features along with an industry-leading factory warranty. Assembled at Hyundai Automotive SA’s commercial vehicle factory in Benoni, the Hyundai EX8 shows improvements where it matters most.
Hyundai EX8 Interior and Exterior
The cab is higher at almost 1.5m making it more spacious with ample headroom. The steering column can be adjusted for reach and height making it easier to find a comfortable and safe driving position. Additional improvements include the reclining seats which can now slide a further 55mm for even more space and comfort.
The dashboard has been lowered by 80mm and along with a 20mm taller and 70mm wider windshield, visibility has increased by 2.2°. Night driving is also safer with new headlamps casting significantly longer (167m) and wider (8.4m) beams.
A standout feature includes a 10mm bigger rear-view mirror with an additional curved mirror underneath eliminating the blind spot. Other small but practical features of the Hyundai EX8 include better door handles, increased door opening angles and a bigger side step for easier access to the cab. The step is covered by the lower part of the door when it’s closed so nobody can climb up to the side windows unless the doors are open.
The EX8 has a longer wheelbase and weighs in at 7 800kg which means a bigger loading deck of 4 850mm making it a more versatile load carrier. As a result, it’s capable of transporting heavier loads of up to 4.1 tons in drop side configuration. Various carrying options are available from tipper and closed bodies to drop side configurations. Customisation is possible through Hyundai’s own on-site truck body builder who also specialises in Hyundai H100 tipper conversions.
Hyundai EX8 Specifications and Performance
An impressively efficient, Euro 3 compliant 3 907cc D4DD common-rail diesel injection engine powers the EX8. Max power is 103 kW at 2 800 rpm while peak torque is 373 Nm at a low 1 600 rpm where a 5-speed manual synchromesh gearbox delivers power to the rear wheels. According to the manufacturer, research is underway to introduce various other new models including a much larger H350 bus and panel van along with an automatic transmission for the medium truck.
Service intervals for the Mighty Hyundai EX8 is now 20 000 km instead of 10 000 km greatly reducing service costs and downtime. Hyundai is launching the EX8 in five derivatives with a four-year warranty with unlimited mileage in this period, and a three-year/200,000km roadside assistance plan as part of the standard package.
