Hot on the heals of yesterdays announcement that the Elantra has been named a Car of the Year Finalist in South Africa comes the news that the Hyundai i40 has won the prestigious Golden Award at this year’s EuroCarBody Conference held in Germany. The i40 beat off nine of Europe’s and Japan’s largest vehicle manufacturers to win the industries highest accolade having never even entered the awards previously.
The awards are hosted by Automotive Circle International, an organisation consisting of all the top automotive suppliers and manufacturers in Europe, and are judged by over 500 industry delegates from around the world. These awards are seen as one of the biggest automotive events of the year and previous winners include some of the most iconic vehicles ever built.
The judges praised the Hyundai i40’s advanced engineering and the effective use of materials and the production efficiency of the vehicle. The i40 scored 37.98 out of a maximum 50 points with the closest competitor and second-placed car, the Audi A6, scoring 35.86. The Mercedes B-Class came in at third place with a score of 34.66.
